Adding water elements to one’s residence will often greatly increase its aesthetic value, especially when adding them to a carefully planned-out garden. Water features & ponds are often thought of as luxury items in garden decoration or private property landscaping, and their use is limited by the amount of space available.
As many water features involve running water, a hidden pump and reservoir are usually hidden out of sight. The reservoir with water doesn’t need to be refilled constantly, as the pumped water is recycled, making most water features self-contained. The pumps that cause the water to run are usually electrical, with wires often hidden under rocks or dirt. An alternative to this is using solar power to pump the water, as it eliminates the need for wires in the garden, but this method can prove to be too expensive for some. The flow of the water is also controlled through electronic means. Fountains and waterfalls are some examples of these types of water features.
A water feature doesn’t need to have running water. Water gardens in the form of ponds are also a popular choice to supplement a private residence or park. These ponds will usually be centered around a certain type of aquatic plant, and they can even include fish whose purpose is to enhance the scenery.
The most popular form of water feature is likely the swimming pool. Swimming pools, when part of a private residence, tend to be adjacent to the residence of a wealthy owner as their prices, as well as the price of installation, tend to be steep. Aside from private residences, pools are also featured in some fitness centers and recreational complexes. When one uses the term private pool, they most often refer to a fixture that is permanently built into the ground, predominantly outside but sometimes also on the inside of one’s home. The methods of construction vary significantly, and concrete tends to be the preferred choice for pool construction as it allows for the greatest liberty of design.
Those not interested in swimming should opt for a water feature made for aesthetic purposes. As previously mentioned, fountains, ponds, and miniature waterfalls all improve the view of the area considerably. In private residences, they are most often used as an addition to one’s garden or lawn, but homes that are lavish enough can also feature fountains and waterfalls as part of their interior. These water features are meant to capture the attention of any onlookers, whether through the masterful sculpting involved or by simulating a stunning natural environment in a residential area.
